Gregory Group is continuing its sustainability journey with the acquisition of 50 fuel saving Volvo Trucks FHs with I-Save tractor units plus six new FE Electric 4×2 curtainsiders.

The order, which followed a thorough trial of the FEs that demonstrated their suitability for urban delivery work, represents an important step for Gregory Group as it targets becoming net zero by 2038.

The six new zero emission trucks will each join one of six Gregory Group depots around the UK, including Cullompton, Plymouth, Avonmouth, Winsford, Glasgow and Aberdeen.

Working during the day, they will recharge overnight on newly installed 43kW AC chargers, supplied by Volvo Trucks.

The Volvo powertrain, with two electric motors combined with a two-speed gearbox, includes a traction control system developed to master slippery surfaces.

Specified with four batteries, the FE Electric chassis offers a range of up to 250 km.

Volvo Trucks in recent years has delivered 35 FH gas-powered trucks to Gregory Group as part the logistics firm’s plan to transition at least 5% of its fleet to cleaner fuels each year.

The new electric models, supplied with a five-year contract-hire agreement from Volvo Financial Services, are backed by a Volvo Gold Contract. It includes preventative maintenance and repairs, and the monitoring of key systems including batteries and other critical components.

Paul Jefferson, Gregory Group Legal, Fleet & Sustainability Director, said: “The latest intake from Volvo Trucks marks a significant fleet renewal strategy to replace older diesel models, as we look to drive down the emissions across our operation in our bid to be net zero by 2038.”
