Average new car CO2 emissions continue to fall

Today (13 April 2005), SMMT publishes its fourth annual CO₂ report which continues to highlight a downward trend in new car carbon emissions.

The 2004 data shows another year-on-year reduction, with a total 9.7 per cent drop from 1997 levels. The largest decline has come in the MPV and 4×4 segments, down 19.4 and 14.6 per cent in eight years respectively.

The report also studies the performance with respect to market trends and taxation measures. It includes details of initiatives for further reductions and places average CO₂ from new cars in the context of total road transport emissions.
