SMMT’s annual Test Day is one of the most eagerly anticipated events in the automotive calendar, providing journalists with a unique experience to drive many of the latest vehicles on sale – or soon to be – in Britain.

At the first Test Day in 1979, our vehicle line-up looked rather different: entertainment technology was just emerging, with cassette players in hot demand; safety technology such as ABS and power steering was yet to become mainstream; and internal combustion engines ruled the roost.

Fast forward to today and motorists have more choice than ever before – some 300 different models featuring cutting-edge safety and entertainment technology such as night vision, blind spot warning, head-up displays and internet connectivity.

On top of that, there are now more than 90 plug-in hybrid vehicles and around 80 battery electric vehicles available to buy in the UK, a zero emission car on offer in every segment, from supermini to dual purpose, with an average battery range of almost 300 miles for new EVs launching this year.

We’re thrilled to demonstrate this ever-growing range and offer up a variety of vehicles suited to all needs and tastes, with more than 169 of the latest models from 35 brands for you to put through their paces, together with an exciting display from four truck manufacturers showing their new technology, green powertrains and innovative developments.
