The Government has confirmed that the Plug-in Truck Grant will continue at current grant levels and annual limits per end customer into the 2025/26 financial year.
Small trucks – between 4.25 and 12 tonnes – can receive up to £16,000 and large trucks (over 12 tonnes) up to £25,000 off the price of an eligible vehicle.
A total of 250 Small truck grants will be available to industry – limited to 10 per end customer – with 100 Large truck grants also provided (limited to 5 per end customer).
All Plug-in Vehicle Grants will remain under review to deliver the greatest value for money for the taxpayer.
To both reduce the physical testing burden on industry and to improve access to the Plug in Truck Grant, type-approval ‘VECTO’ simulations – in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2017/2400 – are now accepted forms of evidence to demonstrate a vehicle’s zero emission electric range performance.
Mike Hawes, Chief Executive, Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) said: “The extension of the Plug-in Truck Grant for another year until 2026 is a welcome – and necessary – step to support zero emission HGV uptake, helping break down one of the barriers to fleet decarbonisation.
“Government has listened to industry, with measures to ensure the grant application process is less onerous and costly, making decarbonisation more accessible for more operators.
“Given UK ambitions for the majority of new HGVs to be zero emission by the same 2035 date as cars and vans, however, the next step must be further substantial support – for vehicle investments, depot and enroute infrastructure rollout, and more affordable energy provision – sooner rather than later.”
Minister for Future Roads, Lilian Greenwood said: “I am thrilled to confirm that truck drivers, haulage companies and businesses all over the UK will continue to benefit from our fantastic Plug-in Truck Grant for another year.
“This is brilliant news, as we continue to make it cheaper, smoother and easier to make the switch to zero emission trucks.”
